"The Suspense Is Killing Me" (A Roald Dahl Mashup of "Willy Wonka" and "You Only Live Twice")

14 x 11 on Heavy Photo Paper

This is a print of my original painting which was created for a gallery show honoring the works of author Roald Dahl.

It was always a fascinating contradiction to me that Roald Dahl who wrote children's stories like "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "Willy Wonka" also wrote the screenplay for a sexy, violent film like "You Only Live Twice". The unlikely pair was perfect for a mashup.

Robert McGinnis, a favorite illustrator of mine, was responsible for the memorable poster artwork for the film. One of the secondary images from the ad campaign was Sean Connery as Bond being bathed by some beautiful Japanese women. This would be my choice for the mashup. Turning Bond into Willy Wonka, making the women Oompa Loompa Orange as well as adding a couple of O.G. Oompa Loompas was just a no-brainer.
