"I See You, Chocolate Man!" Print (inspired by "Dawn of the Dead" and Willy Wonka")
This is the print of my deep cut, "Dawn of the Dead" inspired painting "I See You, Chocolate Man!". This horror classic turned 45 in 2023 and I wanted to create something different to honor this milestone. Tom Savini was not only the creator of the special makeup effects on the show. He also played the lead biker "Blades". During the climax of the film Blades faces off against Ken Foree's character, "Peter". Peter barely escapes being run through by Blades sword, prompting the villain to utter the most memorable cringey racist line from the film, "I See You, Chocolate Man!" (Hey, it was the 70s!) I thought I could honor the cheesiness of the line by dropping Blades into another film to face a more appropriate, literal chocolate man, Willy Wonka. With the Oompa Loompas as the attacking zombies and Willy, Grandpa Joe, and Charlie in the background wondering "WTF?" it all came together. Eagle eyed "Dawn" fans will recognize some of the more famous zombies recreated as Oompa Loompas.
